Pete's Expert Summary
So, the Human has acquired a set of miniature armor, apparently for one of the small, wobbly humans that sometimes invades my territory. It's a collection of hard plastic shells and, more importantly, a delightful tangle of adjustable straps with that intriguing rip-and-stick fastener the bipeds are so fond of. The stated purpose is to prevent the child from scuffing itself on various wheeled contraptions, a goal of supreme indifference to me. However, the potential for the pads to become excellent floor-skittering pucks, and the straps to become first-rate chew toys, is promising. It might be a worthwhile distraction, provided I can liberate a piece from the set.

A Tale from Pete the Cat
The package arrived with the name BOSONER emblazoned on the side, a word that sounded both important and vaguely threatening. The Human unwrapped it, laying out six black objects on the living room rug. Two large, two medium, two small. They looked like the carapaces of some bizarre, hard-shelled beetle. I watched from my post atop the armchair, my tail giving a slow, metronomic twitch. The Human called them "knee pads" and "elbow guards," but I knew what they were: invasion pods. My initial investigation was cautious. I descended from my perch and approached the cluster, maintaining a low profile. I circled them, my nose twitching, detecting the sterile scent of plastic and foam. They were dormant, for now. I extended a single, tentative paw and tapped the largest shell. It made a hollow *clack* against the hardwood floor. No reaction. I tapped it again, harder, sending it skittering a few inches. Still nothing. These were clearly not aggressive organisms, but their purpose remained a mystery. It wasn't until the small human arrived that their function became terrifyingly clear. My Human began strapping the beetle shells to the child’s limbs. I watched in horror. They were symbiotic parasites. The shells adhered to the child’s joints, the long, black straps wrapping around like tentacles. The child, once unfettered, was now a clumsy, armored cyborg, clomping through the house. I retreated under the coffee table to observe this new, terrible evolution. But then, a miracle. The cyborg-child, attempting to navigate its wheeled "scooter," stumbled. Instead of the usual shriek and subsequent coddling, there was only a dull thud as the plastic shell met the pavement outside. The parasite had done its job; it had absorbed the impact. The small human got up, unharmed and giggling. And in that moment, I understood. These weren't invasion pods. They were a tool. A tool to make the loud, unpredictable small human more durable and, therefore, far less likely to interrupt my naps with sudden wailing. I gave a slow blink of approval. The BOSONER parasites could stay. They were, in their own strange way, working for me.
