Pete's Expert Summary

It appears the Human has acquired a box of potential. Inside are numerous small, flat wooden effigies of various creatures and foodstuffs. The intended purpose is, of course, a complete waste of time: the Human will use foul-smelling ink sticks to deface them before applying a sticky backing to plaster them all over the Great Cold Box, my primary source of sustenance. However, I see the true value. Before they are ruined by 'art,' these lightweight wooden discs possess an excellent shape for skittering across the hardwood and a satisfying, if splintery, texture for a test-nibble. Their potential as playthings is high, but their lifespan before being turned into garish fridge-clutter is tragically short.

A Tale from Pete the Cat

The ritual was complete. The Human, after hours of hunching and muttering, had finally finished her "crafts." The acrid scent of the coloring pens had dissipated, leaving only the faint, pleasant aroma of wood. She laid them all out on the living room rug, a silent, colorful assembly. My new kingdom. I descended from my velvet armchair, my gait measured and regal, to inspect my subjects. My tail, a perfect banner of soft gray, swished with judicial authority. I walked among them. The animal figures—a clumsy bear, a bee that looked nothing like the buzzing kind, a rather pathetic fish—would form my warrior class. Behind them, I mentally arranged the fruits and vegetables. These were the peasantry, the tribute-bearers, existing solely to sustain the realm. I gave a wide berth to the garish Easter egg designs; their abstract patterns were unsettling, the work of heretics who must be watched. I paused to sniff a wooden rabbit. Its craftsmanship was crude, but its spirit seemed loyal. I granted it a soft tap with a single, un-sheathed claw—a royal investiture. Then, I saw it. A challenger. A small, wooden butterfly, painted with chaotic swirls of purple and orange, lay slightly apart from the others. An upstart. An insect daring to display such insolence in my presence. I lowered myself into a hunting crouch, my pristine white chest nearly brushing the rug. My eyes, deep green pools of focus, fixed on the wooden rebel. My tail began its slow, metronomic twitch, the only sign of the fury building within. With a burst of speed that defied my pampered lifestyle, I pounced. A single, perfect hook of a claw caught the butterfly's edge, sending it skittering and tumbling across the polished hardwood floor until it vanished into the dark cavern beneath the credenza. Exile. The other thirty-five subjects remained silent, frozen in their places. The message had been delivered. My authority was absolute. As the Human began gathering them to adorn the Great Cold Box, I knew it was not a decoration, but a monument. A vertical gallery of my subjects, a testament to my swift and decisive rule. This "Worgree" kit, while initially a puzzling display of human folly, had provided all the necessary components for a coup. It was, therefore, worthy.
