Pete's Expert Summary
My human, in their infinite and often misguided wisdom, has procured a box from a so-called "Happy Puzzle Company." It's called "The Genius Square," a rather bold claim. Inside are two plastic grids, a collection of rattling dice, and an assortment of small, brightly colored plastic shapes. The objective, as far as my superior intellect can discern, is for the bumbling bipeds to roll the dice and then race to cram the shapes into the grid. The dice are, admittedly, the most promising component, being of an ideal size and weight for batting into the dark abyss under the sofa. The little shapes might serve a purpose in being scattered, but the very notion of arranging them neatly seems a profound waste of energy that could be better spent napping in a sunbeam. It is a source of frantic human activity, which can be amusing to observe, but its value is entirely dependent on my ability to "assist" by reintroducing a healthy dose of chaos.

A Tale from Pete the Cat
The box opened with a crinkle, and the humans laid out the contents on the low table in the living room, a space I generally consider to be my personal observation deck. Two grids, stark and white, sat like empty stages. My human and his guest then performed the opening ritual: a clatter of seven dice, a sound like hail on a tin roof. They studied the results with furrowed brows before placing small, gray cylinders onto their respective grids. I watched from the arm of the sofa, my tail giving a slow, judgmental thump against the upholstery. It was another of their bafflingly complex cooperative-grooming sessions, I presumed, one that involved plastic instead of tongues. Then the race began. They snatched up the colorful, angular pieces—the hard-shelled beetles of this strange ecosystem—and began frantically trying to fit them into the empty spaces. My human jammed a purple piece in, grunted, and pulled it out. The guest triumphantly slotted a yellow piece into place. A strange energy filled the room, a current of focused, primate anxiety. It was patently absurd. They were imposing order on these vibrant little forms, forcing them into a rigid, unnatural conformity. They didn't see the beauty in the scatter, the freedom in the jumble. They saw only a problem to be solved, a race to be won. Then, something shifted. My human, with a cry of "Aha!", placed his final green piece. For a fleeting instant, the completed grid on his side of the table did not look like a collection of plastic. The light from the window caught it, and the shapes seemed to dissolve into a single, shimmering sigil of light. A low hum, imperceptible to their dull ears but a clear thrum against my whiskers, resonated from the pattern. He had accidentally channeled a minor current of cosmic energy. He thought he’d won a game. I knew he’d just opened a very small, very unstable portal to somewhere else. His guest’s grid, a chaotic failure, created a dissonant psychic static that threatened to curdle the cream in my stomach. This imbalance could not be tolerated. With a flick of my tail, I launched myself from the sofa, landing with a soft thud in the center of the table. I gave my human's "solution" a disdainful sniff. Clumsy. Brute force. I nudged the green piece with my nose, sliding it out of place. The portal winked out of existence. Then, I turned to the other grid, the failed one. I saw the true pattern immediately, a far more elegant and stable configuration. I batted a blocker from its designated spot, nudged a blue piece into a more harmonious position, and then, for good measure, hooked a red piece with my claw and sent it skittering off the table. Let them think it was a game. I had just saved the house from a potential dimensional anomaly. This "Genius Square" is a more powerful artifact than they know, and clearly, it requires my expert supervision.
