It has a diagram to be able to set it up, so it is easy to put together. My husband and I play this with our son, and we all have a great time. I would recommend this race track.

This is a very fun toy and one of the most played with in our collection. I may get her the Loving Family stable next.
Collect them all!!!!!

My little boy loves it!

Other train tables I have seen in stores are often wonky and seem quite unstable - and this is after they've been played on in the stores. So after seeing poorer quality tables for similar prices I decided to save up for the Thomas branded one and this single sided playboard.
Yes, it's expensive, but as with any "brand", it's the name you are paying for. If you want a Thomas collection of trains and accessories you are going to have to pay. I'm just starting our collection and am buying the "Thomas" trains and buildings, but found a compatible generic track for less than half the price. I was lucky enough to get this playboard at almost half price at a after Christmas sale. It's worth waiting for sales and price comparing.
It's beautifully painted and when used with the table frame is extremely strong (although I wouldn't recommend standing on it).
It's up to you to spend to decide if you want to spend this sort of money but I see this as something I won't ever have to replace and it's something my son can keep for his children. Toys like this will last!
Great fun!
Makes playing with our trains much more fun!!This board can easily be damaged in transit. Our second attempt was successful. I advise you to order this well before you need it.

Simply Great Toys
An engine from Arlesdale

This is a nice layout that provides far more track than the usual figure 8 layout that gets purchased first. But it is very expensive. There is generic track available that costs far less. Our kids haven't noticed the difference. Kids' imaginations can remarkably supply buildings and water towers and cranes, etc., so that they won't even miss what might be lacking from less expensive sets. And families can build some of these items themselves out of old boxes, etc.
Purchasing recommendation:
* Choose which type of Thomas trains you will 'standardize' on. There are three kinds: This size of wooden trains from Learning Curve; larger, plastic, battery-operated trains from Tomy; and smaller, die-cast metal trains from Ertl. The wooden trains have the most products and accessories available.
* The clickety-clack (grooved to look like real railroad) track in the Thomas series is great, but it's expensive; I recommend buying generic track. ... You can literally save hundreds of dollars by buying these kinds of sets.
* Buy the Thomas and friends engines separately--and wait for sales. The kids care about the characters, so no short-cutting (ie., Brio or generic trains) here.
* Look for trains bundled with VHS videos. You can get a video and a train (on sale) for about the same price as a train alone.
If you can't find the ascending pieces of track you will find them in the bottom of the mountain. We ended up calling the store to complain that the pieces were missing only to find they were there all along. A few pieces of advice. We tried to use a hot glue gun to glue the set in place for our son who is 21 months in the hopes that we would be able to remove the track when he was older and could build different paths on his own. That worked for about 5 hours and then they came up. We are still debating whether to glue it down with super glue. On one hand he won't knock the pieces over but when he is older, he won't be able to reconfigure the track. There does not seem to be a problem with him knocking the pieces out so far so we are going to wait. We also bought the sodor bay bridge because that is his favorite in the store. The pack comes with 2 bridges and supports, but is hard to fit in to the plan, especially if you have a train table. We could only fit one of the two bridges in. He loves to play with the trains. Neil is my favorite engine because he is small and doesn't fall off the track at the bottom of hills when pushed.

Not only that, but it inspires them to drink milk. I was shocked right after I gave them this toy for the first time when they ASKED for milk...they hate milk!
So if you have milk problems with your kids, this is a must!
Thomas Toys continue to amaze me in quality!

Good toy
Excellent and long-lastingFor that reason, Toby and any of the other engines make excellent gifts to any 2+ year old.
