Apples to Apples Game
Made by Out of the Box Publishing LLC
    Amazon base price: $19.99
Don't judge a book by its cover, or an appealing little card game by its box. This game of comparisons is receiving rave customer reviews and was a national competition winner with Mensa, the high-IQ organization. This simple game is designed to be played by 4 to 10 people, making it a good choice for parties or family groups. It comes with a card tray and two sets of cards: red apples and green apples. The red apple cards name a person, place, thing, or event, and the green apple cards feature a characteristic (from adorable to zany). The judge (who rotates on each turn) reads a green card, and all the players have to slap down their choice of red apple cards for that characteristic. Some juicy choices and comparisons are bound to emerge--along with some fruitful lessons in famous people and events. It's an apple barrel full of laughs! --Marcie Bovetz

    StarCraft Battle Chest
    Made by Blizzard Entertainment

The full versions of StarCraft and the acclaimed expansion pack Brood War, as well as complete strategy guides for each, make StarCraft: Battle Chest a treasure chest for real-time strategy fans.

Instead of two similarly powered enemies facing off, the three distinct races in StarCraft have unique capabilities and strategies. Everyone still competes in the RTS genre's typical race for resources, but that's the only shared trait. Terrans can move their bulky mechanized bases as necessary, while the reptilian Zerg grow their colonies and warriors from mutating larvae. Meanwhile, the noble Protoss warp in equipment from their home world using psionic powers.

Not only does game maker Blizzard juggle the races' playability and match it with superb art and sound effects, it also weaves together an engrossing three-act plot. Early on, as a Terran magistrate, you spend a breathtaking 30 minutes defending against a Zerg onslaught. As the story unfolds around you, you'll experience the Zerg's hive mentality and decipher the mysterious Protoss by the game's dramatic conclusion.

Missions vary in scope and are effectively framed with dialogue, chapter screens, and in-mission exposition. Multiplayer games are also very well represented by Blizzard's own free Battle.net service. If you'd rather play over a local area network, StarCraft will generously "spawn" up to seven copies so your friends can join in.

In keeping with StarCraft's groundbreaking design, Brood War presents you with three sides of a galactic conflict. Scheming humans, insidious Zerg, and proud Protoss collide again, with stunning new cinematics setting the stage. Old friends and foes and ominous new arrivals give the story a breakneck pace, while a handful of additions to each race's arsenal makes for tense battles. Brood War also features stellar new environments and ambient art, as well as more than 100 additional multiplayer maps.

Some missions require a bit of finesse, breaking the resource-gathering routine while making good use of the new units. Humans now have Valkyrie missile frigates as well as medics who automatically try to heal your grunts. New for the Zerg air force is the acid-spewing Devourer; the new Lurker unit provides heavy-duty (under)ground support. Along with the Corsair fighter, the Protoss reenter the fray with Dark Templar, which can merge to form the devastating Dark Archon. Unfortunately, units old and new still suffer from weak artificial intelligence in path finding.

Real-time strategy games don't get any more epic or any more satisfying. --Jack Gardiner

all your needs in one box
The battle chest is a great way to get both Starcraft and it's expansion BroodWar, together the make one of the best combat / strategy games. If you don't own Starcraft buy the battle chest and get all the extras. They will help you enjoy the game fully. If you already own Starcraft unless you really want the two strategy guides just buy the expansion pack Broodwar instead. Starcraft really needs to be played with the expansion; it adds more depth to both the game and tactics with new missions and new units. The basic game play is pretty easy to pick up and if you play the single player missions in order you'll quickly learn the strengths and weaknesses of each troop type. Then the fun really begins when you battle against real opponents across the Internet. After you have played the single player missions you'll have your favorite race either Terran, Protos or Zerg. You'll come up with your own tactics on how to deal with your opponents There is a huge on-line community out there defending the 'Honor' of each respective race. Buy the game and come play. This game came out back in 1998 and it is still being played now. Few games can say they have that lasting appeal. The battle Chest is 100% value for money

..and I don't hand out 5 stars lightly.
If, by chance, you're reading this and you've never played Starcraft before, just go ahead and skip reading this and buy it. You won't be disappointed.

If you're thinking about buying it for someone else, go ahead and buy it: I've given three Battle Chests as gifts and it was a hit every time for both kids and adults, even to those who hadn't played this kind of game before.

The Battle Chest is definitely the way to go, as you'll save money over buying it and Brood War separately and get the strat guides for free (and, to be honest, I don't think the guides are worth having unless you're completely clueless about how to beat the game, and there is information in the strat guides that is blatantly wrong as well).

I've been playing RTS games since 1997, and in my opinion, this is the best one ever made. No one has made one that's as fun, has as gripping a storyline and artwork, or depth and replayability of gameplay. It's a work of genius. I've had it for two years and I still play it at least a couple of times a week. There's even one mission left that I haven't managed to conquer without cheating, so the challenge is definitely there.

What you have to understand about Starcraft is that it's not meant to be a cutting-edge feature-heavy supergame where you can customize the behavior of your units and give them complex orders. It's meant to be more of a strategy game like real-time chess, and in this it succeeds brilliantly. It shares the quality of chess in that there are a limited number of units with straightforward abilities, but there are an infinite number of things and strategies that you can do with them. To this day players are still inventing new strategies for these units and races.

The artificial intelligence and pathfinding of the game is the best I've ever seen. No RTS game has perfect AI or pathfinding (units getting lost or tangled up on each other or the terrain), but Starcraft's is by far better than any others out there. The computer will flatten you time and again unless you're playing competently.

Multiplayer is a complete blast, and more options are offered than any other RTS game. You can play team games where you and your allies are actually controlling the same units against the computer or others, in addition to a wide range of variations like Capture the Flag, etc.

Blizzard's Battle.net service is free and at any time of day there are literally thousands of people playing. Internet play is smooth. I've played friends both nationally and internationally with bad connections and low-end computers, and it runs solidly even with the additional traffic of voice chat like Roger Wilco over 56k!

Blizzard's continuing support for the game is also excellent. They release a new map for the game every Friday like clockwork, so there are over a hundred new, well-designed maps available for download and replay.

In summary, just a solid, solid, completely fun game. You can't possibly go wrong by picking up a copy.

      Great Game!
I borrowed Starcraft from a friend and after a few hours of playing knew that I had to get it. So, I went out and bought the Battle Chest. This comes with both Starcraft and the Starcraft: Brood War expansion pack, plus guides for each game and a technology tree map (shows which buildings are needed in order to build more advanced buildings). This is the perfect way to get started playing Starcraft. The game itself is excellent. My friends and I have spent many hours playing and plan on playing it for many years to come. Blizzard hit it right on the head with this game. If you don't have it get it right now. This truly is the standard to which all real-time strategy games are compared to.

      Incredibly Fun!
This is the best RPG Game! Everyone says "No Zelda's the best. Plus it has two games and has at least more then one world." You know what I say "shutup! " Harvest Moon is my favorite game I have played in my life! It all started in one day when my cleaning ladies boy brought it over. I fell in love with it. It's like your becoming a father in real life. You get crops and animals to get money, you have to upgrade your house A LOT, pick your babe from five different girls named Elli, Ann(the babe), Maria, Popuri, or Karen, Festivals every month and races with dogs and horses. You will love it! It's Da' Bomb!

Natsume tells the truth, it's serious fun
One of the best games I have ever seen, I seriously played it for a whole 3 weeks from 7AM-9PM without being bored. You start out on a dead farm with nothing but weak tools and 300G, but eventually you will get horses and cows, sheep and chicken by just planting crops, you can get sick, your animals will if you don't feed them, they will die, you won't, your sweety will give you medicine if you are sick, if you don't have one you will just stay in bed all day, no one visiting. You will need to treat the animals or they will die. You get married by one of 5 possible candidates named Ann, Maria, Popouri, Karen, and Elli. Ann Is an orange haired girl in a barn with her brother and father, loves animals, will marry a boy named cliff if you are friends with both. Maria is a shy librarian who lives with her mother and father (the mayor is her father) she loves cabbage, marries mailman, like Ann with cliff. Popuri lives with her mum and pa in a flower shop, her father isn't in the Ville most of the year, loves flowers, will marry Ann's brother (Odd couple, a happy girl with a man who's tank is empty on social skills). Karen is beautiful face with a negative disposition toward her father, like a snot nosed punk, but they love each other once you get to know them both, she lives with father, mother, and a foreign boy at a vineyard, easiest to marry, just show her your dog over and over, will marry foreign guy, but might leave if your not nice to her, same with foreign man and cliff. Elli owns a bakery with her grandma, who dies eventually, and a man whom you THINK is the father, but like other brides, will marry him if you don't marry her, she likes milk and eggs to make her cakes, cookies, and pies. Now, I heard that the mayor can be you bride err...husband, I am not sure of that though. Well after you marry, if you are extremely nice to your wife (go to sleep at the same time as her, give her gifts each day, especially on her birthday [can't remember by heart] and don't flirt with other girls) then you can have a baby. The other couples can have a baby too. Order and sell animals and animal products to and from Ann's father, buy seeds from Popouri's mother, sell crops to a guy who looks like he lifts a lot of weights, milk, eggs, and wool too, add attachments to your farm by buying them from the carpenters. Get married by making the heart at the bottom red for the girls, buy a baby crib, and then buying a blue feather and presenting it to the fine young lady of your choice, if they accept, you are officially engaged and get married on the next Sunday. The blue feather doesn't appear until you have a red hearty and a baby crib, and I think a kitchen too. You can befriend anyone in town, even tourists, events happen, it's a real-life-farming-game. that is the basic layout of the game, an even easier layout to understand is, get rich, have a family and have friends. I myself have a copy but, my nintendo doesn't work (with tears), so I may just sell it to amazon in the near future!

      Tony Hawk Pro Skater
      Made by Activision
Age Group: 13 years and up
        Amazon base price: $9.98
        List price: $19.99 (that's 50% off!)
        Used price: $0.99
Buy one from zShops for: $7.00
Tony Hawk, famous for his 720 move (a mid-air 360-degree somersault done twice), is widely credited as being one of the best skateboarders in the world. Hawk lends his technical advice and character likeness to this nine-level title, which is among the better skating titles on the PlayStation. While it is cool to play as Hawk, would-be skate pros can also choose to play as one of eight other skaters. Each character has a different riding style and at least three unique tricks to master.

Solo players will skate to win the world championship, with over 100 moves available to score points, including slides, grinds, and landing tricks. A split screen allows players to compete against each other. During this head-to-head mode, you can score style points, race between obstacles, or play tag. If you opt for graffiti mode, both players compete against each other by "tagging" objects while performing their tricks. A replay mode is available for players to view highlights at the end of a game.

The level design is enormous, with 10 interactive courses, including skate and pool parks, half pipes, and a downtown area. Each skating environment is filled with secret places, shortcuts, and obstacles. Once you get the moves down, you can perform a trick off of just about any object that you see. Tony Hawk is not the only star in this game--the music stands strong on its own. Cool cuts come from Primus and the Dead Kennedys--which can be inspiring during the frantic onscreen action. While game control is relatively solid, there are some minor problems in tight areas.

This title is so large it is overwhelming, given the enormity of levels and available moves. However, persistent skate pros will master this game with a little practice. (Fortunately, there is a practice mode to scrape your knees on.) --Kasty Thomas

        Pros:

        • Variety of moves and tricks
        • Excellent course design and graphics
        • Solid controls
        Cons:
        • Control problems in tight areas
        Average review score:

The game that spawned numerous sequels and rip offs
Extreme sports video games, up until the year 2000, were usually extremely lacking. The games often suffered from poor play control and graphics, and seemed rushed. But at long last, in the year 2000, Activision set out to correct all that had been done wrong previously with such titles. They went the extra mile to try to make the perfect skateboarding game. Did they succeed? Read on for my review of Tony Hawk Pro Skater.

        PROS:
-UNLIKE A NUMBER OF EXTREME SPORTS TITLES, THIS ONE USES ACTUAL PEOPLE! As the title of the game may have implied, Tony Hawk is a playable character. In addition to Hawk, there are a number of other pro boarders selectable.
-THE GAME USES ACTUAL MUSIC BY ACTUAL BANDS! Most extreme sports titles feature lame, generic music that sounds like it would be better off elsewhere. In this game, that is NOT true. Bands like Goldfinger and Primus contributed music to this game, and their contributuions are one of the things that make this game so great. The other bands that contributed aren't as well known, but their songs are no less excellent.
-NO TWO CHARACTERS ARE EXACTLY ALIKE. Although every character plays in a similar fashion, each one has his or her own special moves. Likewise, what one character may lack in one area he may make up for in another, while with another character it may be vice versa.
-THERE ARE A NUMBER OF INTERESTING LOCATIONS. This game's settings are another great strength that it has. You'll go everywhere from an abandoned warehouse to an abandoned mall, and even a dam! There is no shortage of cool places to go in this games.

        CONS:
-CONTROLS TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO. If you've never played any game by Activision that uses this same game engine, expect to take some time adjusting to the controls. Once you get the hang of them, though, you'll end up liking them.
-LATER ENTRIES IN THE SERIES WERE CONSIDERABLY BETTER. Although this was a good game, the later games were better, featuring more characters (and some even cooler secret ones), more secrets, and more music. Oh well, this game is still good.
-THE GAME GETS TOO HARD, TOO FAST. This game starts easy, but gets hard after a few short play sessions. Expect to blister your thumbs a lot, and often times accomplish nothing for it.

        OVERALL:
Overall this is a very good game. Sure, it's overrated, but that's because it's a good game! If you want the best skateboarding games out there, the games in the Tony Hawk series are exactly what you're looking for.

This Game Makes You Want To Disconnect Your Phone
When it comes to playing video games on either PC or Playstation, I favor mostly RPGs and Strategy games. And as for sports, I focus mainly on football and hockey. It's never too late to broaden your horizons. I finally got around to picking this game up after I bought Tony Hawk 2 for my niece this Christmas. She kicked my arse rather rapidly, but that was okay because in the process I got seriously addicted to playing this game. Seeing as how I haven't done any skating in almost 15 years (I'm 23 now), I kinda allowed my self to forget how much damned fun it was. Yeah, stop laughing. Anyway, I fired up THPS last night and the world just kinda...well...went away for awhile. Graphics are not too shabby, and you never suffer death by camera like in a few other games I've played. Sound effects are excellent. I could do without the punk soundtrack, since I never got into that. I prefer the soundtrack on THPS2. But that's okay, since I just load Outkast into my stereo and continue to bust some sick moves. Controls are near-perfect, and get even moreso once you master the moves. I'm going to be playing this one for a while.

One of the best sports games ever!
From warehouses, schools, and malls to big citys and a ship, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is an awesome sports game! So many moves available, it has to be one of the best games i own. It has awesome features like options to save and replay your runs in any level any time you want, you can do a two minute run in any level with Single Session, and you can play in any level as long as you want in Free Skate.

Although, this game does suffer a little bit of damage. The first mistake is the lack of challange up to the sixth level:

1st Level: Warehouse - Way too easy, i got all five tapes in one turn.
2nd Level: School - SIMPLE, if you can't get all five tapes then there's something wrong with you.
3rd Level: Mall - Easy as well, took a few trys to get the secret tape, but, now that i know where it's at this level is easy as ...
4th Level, 1st Competition: Skate Park - Come on! These judges are way too easy to impress, you don't even have to get 10,000 to win the gold!
5th Level: Downtown - Bit more challenging, but most of its easy.
6th Level: Downhill Jam - The hardest level in the game, there are several things wrong here. First, S-K-A-T-E, how in the ... are you supposed to get SKATE when the E is at an almost impossible position? I've seen it done but it's hard as ... to get. Second, the secret tape is way to hard to get, i mean, come on, you have to have slow mode on to get it, otherwise, it's very very hard to reach. Why didn't they put this as the last level instead of Streets? It's way harder than that level.
7th Level, 2nd Competion: Burnside - Great challenge, awesome layout.
8th Level: Streets - The best level for the fact that every challenge is as easy as it is hard.

The story of Golden Sun: The Lost Age picks up right near the end of the first game. Golden Sun veterans will be surprised to learn that The Lost Age is played from the point of view of the party being chased as they try to light the remaining two lighthouses, which will unlock the power of alchemy for the world--or will it instead unlock the world's destruction?

Also, players who have finished the first game can transfer their party into the The Lost Age, either through the separately sold game link cable or through a password.

The Best Rpg game in the world.
Golden Sun The Lost Age is the best rpg game!!! Way better than the first one. Even if your new to the Golden Sun games, get the second game first, you won't regret it. Camelot created the highly populated Golden Sun but then, they come out with another one which is even better. I'm new to the Golden Sun games but decided to buy the sequel first, and wasn't dissapointed. The way they've made it is totally incredible. The dialouge is extremely long but after the dialouge's over, the battles that you do are extremely fun. Gameplay:9/10 Graphics:10/10 Sound:10/10 Overall 9.9/10. Get this game it is a must have for any Rpg lover!!!!!!!!

          it was worth waiting for!
having played the Japanese language version of this game, i can safely say that it will definitely blow the first game away. lots of new Psynergy (a lot of RPGs have some form of magic... GS uses psychic energy) to learn, lots of new and interesting weapons, many new places to explore, many new summons to get, and...

you can transfer data from a saved file that's on your Golden Sun cartridge. here's the main story:

in the first game, the main character Isaac and his friends Garet, Ivan, and Mia were chasing after Saturos and Menardi, two members of a northern fire clan who stole the Elemental Stars from Sol Sanctum and wanted to unleash their power upon the world by lighting the 4 lighthouses, all the while keeping Isaac's friend Jenna and the great Alchemy sage Kraden (and eventually a young girl named Sheba) hostage. at the end of the first game, your party succeeded in defeating Saturos and Menardi shortly after they lit the Venus Lighthouse. however, Jenna and Kraden are missing on a piece of land that broke off from the continent, and Sheba fell from the lighthouse into the ocean. in addition, Jenna's long-lost older brother Felix, who had been traveling with the fire clan members, jumped after Sheba to save her.
the second game starts out shortly thereafter. the members of your party are Felix, Jenna, Sheba, and, later on, Piers, a Lemurian they find on their journey. while in the first game the object was to keep the lighthouses from being lit, Felix is dead set on lighting the two remaining lighthouses. and the new foes of the game? Menardi's lil sister Karst and the strongest clansman she could find, Agatio. while they do want the lighthouses lit, they also want revenge for Menardi's death.

as i mentioned before, you can transfer data from a previous save file for the first game. you see, after the Jupiter Lighthouse is lit, you meet the 4 characters from the first game and get them into your party. that's right... 8 playable characters. and their stats when you get them are at whatever they were when you won Golden Sun (if you do not transfer data or use a passord, they start out at level 28). from there, you have a few more tasks before you can go to the Mars Lighthouse, but one thing is for sure... this is a much better game, and it it has excellent replay value. one of my favorite things is the blacksmith in a town on the second continent, who will make a plethora of weapons/armor for you from certain materials you find, making each game different since you won't always get the same items! also, the new multi-elemental summons, some of which you must defeat a game boss in order to get (and some of them are pretty tough). the final boss, the Doom Dragon, is quite a formidable opponent, attacking 4 times per round. he is humongous, can set all your Djinn on recovery, and has a special summon of his own, Ruin Crash.

i've played this game 4 times and won it twice (2 save files i'm just trying to level up for fun on). the music is just orgasmic - Motoi Sakuraba is one excellent composer, that is definitely for sure.

The Sequel of Golden Sun : What more could you want?
Golden Sun: The Lost Age, is the sequel to the highly successful Golden Sun, starring Isaac, Garet, Mia and Ivan. This game will have you controlling the people the aforementioned were chasing all of the first game. I.E., Felix, Jenna, Kraden, Sheba and an extra character, Picard. ( Although I think His name will be different). Anyway, I'm not sure of your quest, but I've seen several screenshots (50) and Camelot has certainly kicked the already beautiful graphics (in my opinion anyway)up a notch or five.
Anyways, onto part of the storyline I know.
If you played GS1, and beat it, you would have remembered the last scene of the game, where Jenna and Kraden are seen floating on an island after the epic last battle between Isaac, Garet, Mia and Ivan, and the game's big bosses, Saturos and Menardi. You also might have remembered seeing Felix leap off the Venus Lighthouse to try to save Sheba. And Alex catches up with Jenna and Kraden and shows them that Felix and Sheba made it.
Well, GS2 starts slightly before all that. You control Jenna, and find your way down to the ship you first thought was Babi's Lemurian ship (the part where the island breaks off), but it was really Saturos and Menardi's ship. Then you see that oh so familiar cutscene.
Enough of talking the game, let's talk about a rather cool feature in GS2. Remember when you beat the game and in the 'Continue' screen you saw your game and 'CLEAR DATA'. For the love of all that is good and pure, DO NOT DELETE THAT GAME!!!
In GS2, they ask you if you want to upload your old game. How, you ask, as there is no upload option in the menu screen. Well, my friend, if you press L, R, left and b simultaneously and then b immediately after, a new option appears. "SEND". YOu can either send your game by way of a link cable, or three different password. Bronze password lets you send Level and Djinn. SIlver lets you send Level, Djinn and Character stats. Gold lets you send Level, Djinn Character stats, itmes and coins. Be warned, the Gold password id six screens long.
Trust me, putting in these passwords will alter your story when you meet Isaac, Garet, Mia and Ivan leter in the story.
          BUy THIS GAME!!! IT ROCKS!!!

This game is non-violent game (my mom is soooo against shoot 'em ups), it has great graphics, there's animals (I'm an animal lover), and crops. I think, it's probably my favorite Harvest Moon game of all. I started by seeing it at my friend's, and then I just HAD to play. Every weekend we'd get together and play, it was soooo much fun! Then, my bro got an N64 and I got that version - not as good, but it was still fun. I really recommend this, there's such great stuff to do!

            -Sheep
            -Chickens
-Foxes, Squirrels, Rabbits and Bugs are some wildlife that run around, and you can pick them up and carry them.

            Until The Cows Come Home!
Insanely addictive farming fun! Who would have every thought farming would be this much fun? Harvest Moon for those who are unfamiliar with the long running franchise started out on Super Nintendo and has continued on to Gameboy, Playstation, N64, and PS2. Harvest Moon is a fun game for the whole family. The point of the game is to restore your grandfather's farm back to its former glory. Each year consist of four months. In these months you plant different crops and raise animals like chicken, cows, sheep, fish, a dog, and a horse if your lucky. You earn profits, play mini-games, get involved with the locals, built onto your farm and home as time goes by and if your lucky you can get one of five girls to marry you. This game will quickly become a favorite even if most of the tasks are repetitive . But you are a farmer and farmers do have to get up and feed the cows everyday. Buy Harvest Moon for your kids or just by it for yourself. Be a farmer without all the hard work.

Featuring graphics that surpass even the amazing NFL 2K, Soul Calibur is the martial arts fighting game to end all fighting games and the game to get if you're a Dreamcast owner. Based on the arcade classic of the same name, Soul Calibur lets you choose to represent one of 10 fighters in a series of battles against your peers. If you can successfully defeat all of your opponents, you will then face the fiendish Inferno in a final showdown that will determine the fate of the world. Each of the game's warriors is armed with a different deadly weapon--sword, ax, stave, nunchaku, you name it--and an assortment of special moves all tailored to that specific weapon. The warriors include men, women, and creatures from all over the globe and from various mythologies. Each is brought to life with amazing motion-capture animation, which results in incredibly lifelike and realistic duels. If you own a Dreamcast or are thinking of buying one, do yourself a favor and add Soul Calibur to your collection. --Mike Ryan

            Pros:

            • Exceptionally lifelike graphics and animation
            • Multiple game modes--1-player, 2-player, team, computer vs. computer, martial arts demo, and more
            • Secrets and extra features will keep players coming back
            Cons:
            • May be too violent for some parents
            Average review score:

            Fun, Fun, Fun
On the plus side: 1) OUTSTANDING graphics and animation. 2) Excellent sound effects. 3) Beautifully fluid and very addictive gameplay. 4) Easy to pick up and play the first time, but difficult to master, especially at the harder levels.

On the minus side: 1) Repetitave, commentary by the narrator and characters, to the point of being annoying. 2) Inability to silence same while retaining music and sound effects.

Other than the commentary, the game is as close to perfect as something manmade can be. Fix that, and I'd have given it 5 stars (should be about 4.75 stars, but Amazon.com won't let us rate it that way). I've noticed people who don't even like video games, getting a real kick out of playing this one.

It is a great way to get out your frustrations.

If you are not willing to pay the [cash] for this game, you probably shouldn't own the Sega Dreamcast. It's a bargain, and is the best fighting game I have ever seen/played in my 20 years of playing video games.

A Fighting Game of the Highest Calibur
I first played Soul Calibur in a local arcade several years ago, not really knowing anything about it. After recieving a Dreamcast for Christmas I made sure that I bought this game. I was floored. Definately the finest video game I have ever played (with the exception of Neo-Geo's arcade version of Samurai Showdown II), Soul Calibur packs in all that a fighting fan could ever wish for. First off, the characters. All conform to the basic archetypes of fighting games. Their edge: each is totally different from the others, their moves, stances, voices and dialogue completely unique. Second, the graphics. This game takes every advantage of the Dreamcast's 128-bit ability. The scrolling is flawless, the 3D effects phenominal. The music and animations, as well as the Japanese voice-overs, are superb and the art gallery, mission mode, and other special features are totally amazing. The gameplay is important as well. Each character has such a varied range of moves and motions that you can play the game for quite a while and never get bored. My current favorite characters as Mitsurugi, Kilik, and, a secret character, Yoshimitsu. However, I do have a few bones to pick with this game. While the nine secret characters available are superb and fun to play, there is not yet an all-inclusive code to access all of them, meaning that you must play through the game close to 20 times to achieve all of them. Also, the secret characters are, though bodily different, subtle rehashes of the original characters, with a few exceptions. Another downfall: I have not yet discovered how to save all of the secret characters onto a VMU. My unit stops after the first 4. This means that after you have gotten all the characters, you'll have to start all over again once you turn the Dreamcast off. The HORROR! Also, the cheapness rating of this game is rather hight. Characters such as Kilik have a distinct advantage over many other "slower" characters and have the ability to continuously thrash their opponents while they're down, virtually upopposed. Players new to the game have a high liklihood of being taken to the cleaners by a more experienced opponent. Despite these downfalls, the game's virtues more than make up for its flaws. If you're looking for a good fighting game with an added dash of panach, check Soul Calibur out. Enjoy!

soul calibur is the best Fighting game

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
            Made by Nintendo
Age Group: 6 years and up
              Amazon base price: $5.29
              List price: $34.99 (that's 85% off!)
              Used price: $18.99
Buy one from zShops for: $37.53
One of two new Zelda games for the Game Boy Color, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is the more action-focused title of the duo. The Triforce has alerted Link to trouble in the land of Holodrum, where the General of Darkness has kidnapped Din, the Oracle of Seasons. The villain hopes to transform Holodrum into a wasteland by changing the order of seasons. It's up to you to help Link save Holodrum by rescuing Din.

The game features more combat and fewer puzzles than its sister, making it better suited for younger gamers. Its mechanics and menus are similar to those found in Link's Awakening, also for the Game Boy. This is classic overhead role-playing at its best. The key item in this game is the rod of seasons, which allows Link to change seasons at will. For example, an impassable lake becomes a quick stroll by using the rod to change seasons from summer to winter.

Although this game is extremely enjoyable on its own, you'll want to use it in conjunction with its sister title: Oracle of Ages. After you complete one game you'll be given a password that lets you begin with all your items, statistics, and progress intact in the other. Certain characters will appear only by playing both games. By using a link cable, players can trade items. Game Boy Advance users will find a store that's exclusive to them.

While this is one of the best Game Boy titles ever, a truly sublime experience can be had playing it with its companion title. --Raymond M. Padilla

              Pros:

              • Hours of outstanding gameplay
              • Great as a standalone; outstanding in conjunction with its sister game
              • Nice bonuses for Game Boy Advance owners
              Cons:
              • Lots of reused sound effects from previous Zelda games
              • Longtime gamers might find the story and level design contrived
              • Your thumbs will get sore from all the battles
              Average review score:

I'd rather save Nayru, Oracle of Ages
I played Oracle of Ages first, and it was a better game, although both are worth playing.

When they say that Oracle of Seasons is more focused on the combat, they're not kidding! There were very few puzzles and, in my opinion, a lot of meaningless sword-swinging. Most of the bosses need to be hit by the sword many times and then they are defeated. In Ages, you actually had to use the item that you just got. Up to the boss, Onox, it is really easy. Getting from level to level was a little hard for me, but that's because I always overlook the obvious. Other than that, it went so much faster than Ages.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to defeat Onox yet. I can't even get past the second stage! I don't understand how a sword can't cut through him but if you use hero's skill it can! He's a chunk of rock! So the boss is HARD!

The Maku Tree isn't as loveable as in Ages. He just sleeps! Doesn't even hit on you...

As in all Zelda games, it's much more enjoyable if you take it slow (although it's hard in this one) and talk to all of the people in it. They have funny things to say! One of my favorite parts is Subrosia with the Like-Likes! They're so cute! So instead of traveling through times, you change the seasons and go through portals to Subrosia. Dancing there is great! It's a little easier than the Goron dancing, though they are both difficult.

About the seasons...it gives the game a lot more flexibility in how the levels can be arranged. Instead of having 2 ages, you get 4 seasons, each with different "hidden" parts. I really like how you can bounce on the flowers in the spring! And the people say different things at different times! It is fun!

You get to see many of the same characters as in Ages, the important ones as well as the town folk. And there are some different items. I especially liked the Magnetic Gloves and Roc's Cape. The level design is pretty straightforward and the dungeons are rather easy.

Overall, it's a good game to play, but you should definitely try it's companion too. I can't use the codes to link them yet until I beat this one, so I'll try!

              Great music, as always!

Get this game and Ages, so that you can further your Zelda gaming skills!

              Great Portable Zelda Action
Although I have not finished this game yet, I feel that have played enough to give a very accurate review. First off, you would be hard-pressed to find a better game for the Gameboy Color. Everything about this game is a amazing, right down to the series of blips and bleeps that pass for music on the Gameboy. If you've played Link's Awakening DX, you know how the controls in this game are: amazing. The only problem is that you cant face any diretions other than north, south, east and west, but it never hurts you during the game. The colors are very real looking, Capcom didn't try to do too much with the GBC's meager palette. Although the story is nothing special (your standard evil guy takes destroys something and kidnaps someone to take over the world), it feels very good for this type of a game. The bosses aren't too difficult, but some of you may need to use a strategy guide or FAQ. Any problems with this game are minimal, and should not be too much of an issue with anyone. Nintendo and Capcom scored a hit with The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

Even better than Ages, a great game
Like the title says, this game even better than its companion The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, though neither of them is magic in quite the same way Link's Awakening was. It's definitely worth playing, especially as part of the pair. Link plays mother nature, using the Rod of Seasons and the power of( eventually) all 4 seasons to transform the landscape of Holodrum, a land where he has been sent by the Triforce to save the missing Oracle of Seasons and restore the mixed-up natural order. As he journeys through the the overworld, encountering all sorts of inclement weather, and changing the season to his advantage, and through the underground land of Subrosia, he will meet new friends and enemies, and face nonstop action and challenging dungeons on his way to stop Onox, General of Darkness. The action rarely lags as you and your animal helper explore the map in all conditions, finding your way into hidden dungeons and inching closer to rescuing Din, the beautiful dancing Oracle. Enchanting features inclue interesting people, and the collectible and very useful magic Rings. In addtion, the game connects with Ages for a continuing double-length adventure leading up to the ultimate battle with an old foe. All in all, it's worth twice the price.

"It is the spring of 1942. The world is at war. Five world powers are struggling for supremacy. You and your opponents control the military and economic destiny of one or more of these countries.... In this game, you'll discover that cooperation and negotiation are just as important as tactical maneuvering." So begins the 32-page instruction manual for Axis & Allies. To win this complex strategy game, you must learn to be a master economist and a brilliant military strategist and tactician. The game board is a map of the world divided into the spheres of influence that existed at the height of World War II. Both the Axis and Allied powers are allotted combat forces and income, measured in Industrial Production Certificates (IPCs). You must manage your nation's economy and lead its military forces--air, land, and sea--into well-chosen battles. The intricacies of the game are carefully spelled out, as are the criteria each side must meet to become the victors. Contents include 299 detailed combat force playing pieces, IPCs, dice, markers and chips to chart each country's progress, and everything you need to change the course of history in under a day. What if? / hours, and hours, and hours, and hours of fun!
Well, WWII was four years long, and so could this game last! Actually, I've had this game for almost fifteen years now (oh God!), and though I haven't played it recently as of this review, I miss playing it because it gave me lot's of enjoyable, strategy filled hours with friends. I don't think this is for players under the age of 15 really, but who knows. I have to say that it's obviously turned into a "classic" over the years since I've played it, and it's good to see that it's gained quite a following (over 130 reviews here so far!).

Axis vs. Allies (US, UK, Russia vs. Germany & Japan). In my opinion the side playing the Axis has a tougher time of it in the long haul (hint: Germany must consolidate and defend before branching out), but if they can hold off Russia, and prevent arial attacks from the UK then they'll survive. It's always interesting to see what happens, and each game is different. Each side earns income from their territories, and must build land, sea, and air forces accordingly. As in Risk, the dice determine outcomes of battles, but the rules in Axis & Allies are more flexible with regards to where the forces can and can't go, and the numbers involved. It's more complex and interesting than Risk, and demands more thinking and tactical skill.

Six hours is probably a good "average" time-span for this game, although I remember keeping the board out overnight on more than one occassion praying the dogs wouldn't knock the pieces over! There should be ways to get extra pieces for this game . . . maybe there are now. All in all, I recommend Axis & Allies for learning geography, basic history of WWII, and improving chess related skills in tactics and strategy. Once you read the instructions and play the first time, the game is easy to figure out. And, as in life, the dice (i.e. the Fates, the Gods, Luck, Chance, the unpredictable whatever you want to call it) keeps each day (i.e. game) interesting and unique. Who knows, you just might re-determine the outcome of WWII! As a correllative, check out the "What If?" book series edited by Robert Cowley. There are fascinating essays by reknowned historians on such subjects as "What would happen if D-Day failed?," or "What if Hitler won the war?".

Have fun - may the dice be with you!

one of the best board games I've ever played
Axis and Allies is probably the best strategy board game I've ever played. I'd play it over Risk and Stratego anyday. Although the game if well played can take over 6 hours, I still enjoy every bit of it. It forces you to look ahead into the future and anticipate the enemy's moves. When you want to attack, the battle board organizes the pieces into a controllable force and the attack into a step by step sequence. Nothing is more inspiring than building up a giant invasion force for 5 turns then unleashing it on an enemy capitol in hopes of conquering it and taking thier money too! Unfortunately, it's most fun with the maximum 5 players but 3 and 4 will do if u can't get 5 people together. In all I'd say that A&A can save u many boring rainy days. ****(for those of you who are thinking about buying this game,i recommend you buy the revised edition with new country specific pieces, new game board and rules. this older version is good too but hey it's up to you and fun either way!)****

Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years
I first played axis and allies back in about 1985, and I most recently played it about a year ago. It's a fun, beer and pretzels strategy game. Complicated compared to monopoly, simple compared to squad leader or more serious war simulation games.

It is time consuming, especially if you play it out to the bitter end. You have to at some point admit defeat gracefully, or it will come down to one player building a horde of infantry and forcing the other players to come dig him out. Unless you really get into rolling dice, there's no need to go that far.

There are variants for A&A on the internet that will help resolve the problem that once you've played enough times you will find that the outcome is somewhat fixed. If both sides play their best strategy, the allies will win, barring a fluke in one of the first turn battles in the societ union. It's bad when you play the first turn, and declare a winner, but experienced axis and allies players should be able to do that.

Once you have mastered axis and allies, look into the pacific version, or "Swords of the amurai" formerly sold as "Shogun!"

Voted a Best Party Game of the Year by Games magazine, Wise and Otherwise belongs next to Pictionary and Scrabble in your arsenal of fun. This creative, interactive game (read: everybody shouting, flailing, laughing) revolves around 500 cards, each emblazoned with five obscure and long-forgotten sayings from around the world. For example, one old Chinese saying is, "Don't add salt to a boatload of salt fish." One side of the card states, "Don't add salt to..." and it is the job of the players to devise probable endings. "Don't add salt to salty soup," for example. Or, "Don't add salt to the open wound." (The actual endings are listed on the flip sides of the cards.) A player wins points when other players vote for his or her special ending, or when the player guesses the actual ending, so the goal is to finish the proverb as convincingly as possible given the geographic region in question. Each elegant box contains one game board, 500 cards, six writing pads, six pencils, one die, and six player pawns. People who love language, oddly hilarious translations, offbeat proverbs, or just making people look foolish by guessing their very clever answers will adore this game. We predict: The one who plays this game ... will hear the laughter.

                  Hysterical!!!
This is a great game, expect hysterics from everyone concerned. If you can manage to retain your ability to speak while you play, you are in good shape. My husband and I played with a bunch of our friends who were also in our wedding party. Our wedding favors were fortune cookies with customized fortunes so we used sayings that our friends had come up with during various games. The guests were confused, but we were amused all the same.

                  Don't know about the 12 and above . . .
We actually played with six people, three of them being 6, 8 and 9. Talk about real hilarity!!! These kids came up with unbelievable endings we would never have guessed. It was lots of fun. Truly, we cried with laughter at almost every turn!

                  Laughed so hard we cried!
The first time we played this game, 6 people (grown adults) were in tears laughing at the absurdity of some of our responses! We continued in this gasping for air style of play for about 3 more rounds before we calmed down enough to get into more of the subtleties of the game. It is at times hilarious, thought provoking and insightful of those you play with. How funny or insightful depends on the players' effort, but if you are truly trying to win, you'll be surprised how many people you can fool with bogus phrase endings. I highly recommend this game!
