Arcade Motorcycle Racing at It's BestFirst, there are the graphics. Nice. Fast, clean, crisp, and bright. And there's lots of neat stuff going on in the background, like birds flying by overhead or windmills turning. Granted, today most games feature graphics that make old PSX games look pathetic, but style in graphics is forever, and the graphics in this game will always look great. They look just like a Daytona USA or Ridge Racer arcade game.
Then, there is the control. I must say, this is the only racing game I ever played where I actually WANTED to use one analog for steering and the other for braking. It just feels PERFECT. Control is also made more interesting by the turbo wheelies (the boost) which speed you up, but make it almost impossible to turn. Stategy in the controls? You bet.
The music and sound are VERY arcade-like. If you dig that sort of thing, you'll be very pleased. If you DON'T, well, it's pretty good for arcade-style.
Where this game really shines is replay value. Long after you've played through a season on the excellent and varied street and off-road tracks, you'll be coming back for more. You see, all of the tracks are awesome. You've got a snow track, a jungle track, a desert track, a beach track (you get the idea, every kind of eye-candy dressing you could imagine), and every track is very unique. There isn't one track that feels just like the other. And you can unlock mirrored and reversed modes for each track (and select them both for mirrored and reversed at the same time). And there is the code that makes every track at night, essentially doubling the replay value once again (thanks to GREAT lighting effects). And let's not forget the pocket bikes that look rediculous and go so fast you'll be flying off your bike left and right.
All in all, I would call this game a somewhat underappreciated classic. It's one of the best arcade-style games to be found for a console system, and even the sequels could never quite match the simple genius of the original. If you love racing games, this one is must-have.

The instructions to this low quality feat of engineering are sad. The company chose to make one set of confusing, intermingled directions for all of its models, so its hard to tell if you are looking at an instruction for a ten speed adult bike, a 20" boys bike or a 16" girls bike. One thing I became aware of is that, at some point, they changed the training wheel mechanism on this bike. How do I know? The instructions describe perfectly how the old mechanism works and what parts should be there. However, the training wheel mechanism I received is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions and the parts are even different. And this is probably the most important child safety feature on the product outside of the plastic, non-operational handbrake.
Happy riding!

Motorcycle go vroom!I'm a big fan of racing games on the PSX, and I really enjoyed the original Moto Racer. I'd been looking forward to the sequel for a while, and I was quite sure it would be a big improvement over the original--the specs sure sounded impressive.
The graphics are indeed improved over Moto Racer, with more detailed road surfaces and semi-realistic textures. However, this didn't come for free-there's noticeable slowdown if there's more than 2 other bikes on the screen, while the original did much better with up to 5-6 bikes or so. The bike graphics may or may not be improved, I can't really tell (and who looks at the other bikes anyway?)
Loading times are also extremely obnoxious. It was a serious problem on my original PSX, as it would take literally 30-45 seconds to load one track. (I recently purchased a new unit, and it sped up a bit, but it's still annoying.) This is really the most disappointing part of the game, especially as the first one was relatively quick to switch between tracks. They got rid of the excellent load/save screen in the first one, and instead you can only save one game per memory card. (Sony requirement to sell more memory cards?) In fact, all of the cute little touches they had in the original game (the neato waveforms on the audio screen, the 3-D rotating objects in the setup backgrounds) are gone.
There are a lot more tracks in Moto Racer 2 but they're all rather similar, and I often find myself thinking "didn't I just race this track?" It's easy to get them mixed-up.
The track editor isn't terribly interesting. It's fairly hard to use, and after playing with it for 5 minutes it's easy to see why all the tracks are similar, as the editing capabilities are quite limited.
Get the original Moto Racer. It's probably cheaper and frankly, it's at least as much fun. There's nothing in Moto Racer 2 that compels me to play it over the original, and I find the loading times and slowdowns annoying enough to want to avoid it.

I think this game could have been great if only ...Now, onto the RACING ELEMENTS of the game! The big (and only) problem I have is that if you fall off your bike AT ALL, you will lose the race no matter how skilled you are because the computer-controled opponents hardly ever fall or even slow down.
FREESTYLE. Ah,yes! This is where I spend most of my time playing the game. No worrying about losing a race here. Just have fun and pull off cool tricks. Unfortunataly, you run into that horrible problem with the game's physics alot in this mode. But, once you master the landings, Freestyle is pretty much flawless.
Ahem...now we head to the SOUND catagory. Well, I'll tell you the only things you'll ever hear any of the riders say: Ooh!, Aaagh!, Umph. And the music? It's average rock. Nothing spectacular.
FINAL THOUGHTS. If you want a good racing game, do not buy (or even rent) this game. If you're looking for a game with a pretty good Freestyle mode where you can pull off wild tricks and stunts, you may want to check this game out.
Pretty solid game for a mere 10 dollars.before even playing it, it looked cool and it was cheap (well... at Wal-Mart).So what if it isn't featuring
Ricky Carmichael or Jeremy McGrath. It has like 15 or 16 courses, Three Modes:
Freestyle, Supercross, and Motocross, and a... load of options.
The graphics are so-so they are average PSone graphics. Nothing
special, The controls can take some getting use to but once you
master them it's as smooth as butter. Be sure to check it out
if you are a dirt-bike freak like my-self.
